Essential tools for beginner candle makers

Starting your candle-making journey is an exciting way to explore creativity and create beautiful products. To make the process seamless, having the right tools is essential. Here’s a list of must-have tools for beginner candle makers:

1. Double Boiler

A double boiler helps gently melt wax, preventing overheating or burning. You can use a dedicated candle-making pot or repurpose a heatproof bowl over a saucepan. If you're not a fan of the double boiler method, you can search for candle wax melter pots, that way don't need to use the stove and you can dedicate a seperate area of your home for the candle making.

2. Thermometer

A thermometer ensures the wax and fragrance oils are heated to the correct temperatures, which is critical for even mixing and optimal scent throw. I personally use a long meat thermometer, I have found them more accurate than a temp gun.

3. Wicks and Wick Stickers

The wick is the heart of your candle. Choose a wick suitable for your wax type and container size. Wick stickers or a glue gun keep the wick secure in the container. The type of wick really depends on the size and type of wax you are using, testing is key, I will go into this in a later blog post.

4. Containers or Molds

Select heat-resistant containers like glass jars or metal tins. Silicone molds are great for shaped candles, although you have to use the correct wax for molds. I prefer ceramic jars as I like the easthetic but of course it is a personal preference.

5. Fragrance and Dye

Add personality with essential oils, fragrance oils, and dye. Ensure your additives are specifically designed for candle making.

6. Stirring Utensils and Scale

Use a dedicated utensil for stirring wax and a digital scale to measure wax and fragrance precisely.

With these tools, you're equipped to create stunning candles that will light up any space!
